¡Qué una noche sevillana!

Yesterday our orientation guide took us on a tour of the city. We walked for three hours and then went out to "tapear" aka have tapas for lunch. It was so nice to get acquainted with the city

In the evening, our group had a typical night out in Seville. We started by going out for Tapas with my guide Fran. Fran ordered all the food, I have never tried so many new things during one meal! After Tapas we went to a Flamenco show in a hotel...where this hotel was I have no idea! I still can't understand how the Sevillanos navigate through the narrow and winding streets but I am hoping to find out!

The flamenco show was inside, but in a courtyard-like room with high ceilings and vines hanging from the walls. Flamenco was a lot different than I expected, but I guess all I knew was that the women wear big skirts. The dancers are so passionate and stomp their feet a lot and very loudly.

Today the students from my program moved into our homestays! I was super nervous, but not so much for meeting the person, but for the kissing on the cheek thing that the Spanish love so much! This place sure is going to pop my very small personal bubble! I am living with a "chica joven" or a young women in an apartment in the neighborhood called Triana. Her name is Elisa, and we still haven't met. Her "compañero" y Padre picked me up from the hotel with another student who is living with her Padre. I still can't pronounce her compañero's name but I'm working on it. He made me lunch this afternoon---some kind of pasta with a cream sauce and MUSHROOMS! ah and I ate them too Mom and Dad--We chatted about sports which was nice. He said Ricky Rubio started playing D1 basketball in Spain when he was only 14...or at least that is what I think he said! I also bought a cell phone today from a woman who only spoke spanish aka I was very proud of myself! Just after three days I am feeling more confident in my spanish!

After three days here I have some observations:
1.Spanish apartments are freezing! Most don't have central heating and the ground is all tiled so you always have to wear slippers.
2. I have no idea what the rules of the road are because it seems that nobody really stays in the lanes, but at least they drive on the same side of the road as us!
3. All the streets are lined with orange trees but nobody eats them because they are bitter.
4. It seems like sliding doors are very popular. All the doors were sliding in the hotel, and the bathroom door slides in my apartment
5. A 30 minute walk is totally normal
6. Dogs who live in the city don't really have a yard, so there is often dog poop on the streets, but we have also seen street cleaning crews out at night picking up trash and wiping down the streets, so in general it is a very clean city
7. The public transportation here is awesome
8. In Spain, Victoria isn't the only one with the secret...they have stores called "Women's Secret"
More to come!

Here is a picture of my room! BI seems to like it :)

Now I am all unpacked which feels great and I am about to meet up with my group again to do more orientation stuff and then go tapear again later tonight! But first I have to find the meeting spot by venturing out on my own for the first time...buena suerte a mí!
